Whitehaven is a Georgian town on the west coast of Cumbria and is one of the two Gem Towns in Cumbria, there being 40 in all across England. Whitehaven is a very beautiful town with a lovely harbour, a walk out to the light house is very rewarding.

The town was built on the ship building and mining industries but both have long gone from the area but remaining museums and equipment are still there to see today.

The town is excellent for shopping or just wondering around as it is full of history and the Rum Story is a highly recommended visit.

There are walks to take you over the hill in Whitehaven by the Beacon to the Haig Colliery Mining Museum, which is also another worth while viewing.
